Fullerton, CA – Orange County Sportplanes has signed an agreement with REMOS Aircraft to become a sales, service, flight training and assembly center for the popular high wing Sport Aircraft. Michael Duke, who founded the company, set up the operation as an extension of General Aviation Company, a 30-year old FBO that he purchased in the summer of 2005.

REMOS Aircraft has designated OC Sportplanes as one of two U.S. assembly centers for receiving the aircraft from the factory in Germany. Dukes company has already received a half dozen aircraft in containers, has another six in transit and expects assembly activity to escalate dramatically over the summer months.
In addition to providing warranty support and service, OC Sportplanes has two salesmen and a pair of CFIs who are qualified to provide checkouts or complete Sport Pilot license training.
Duke, who maintains a REMOS inventory, said that he seeks to create a sales organization that mimics a new car dealership, complete with enough new aircraft on hand to give consumers an opportunity to try them on for size, to make a choice in equipment. We dont like the idea of taking a deposit check and telling the customer that he might have to wait two to four months for delivery. Wed like to see him get in his new aircraft and fly it home the day he buys it. To succeed in this business, you have to carry inventory in the showroom.

Of the aircraft sold since the company was established in November of 2005, Duke reports that about half have gone to private pilots who are converting to sport pilot flying and the other half have gone people who want a lifestyle change and are taking up flying to realize a dream theyve held for years.
